SPRING
IS HERE !
Although
parts of April felt like July, it's still really
just Spring. Your Historical Society has many activities
planned for the remainder of Spring. Our biggest
event, the Civil War Encampment at the Neshaminy
State Park, just took place over the weekend of
April 18-19, 2009. The weather was beautiful, there
were lots of spectators and soldiers, and the best
part was all the people who came out to help, THANKS!
We
had an Open House for the Growden Mansion scheduled
for June 14, 2009, but this clashed with the opening
day of the Mongkoltepmunee Buddhist Temple right
up the street from our building. The Growden
Day Open House will now be in September 2009. More
information about this event will be posted when
it is available.
For
all of you Antiques Road Show fans, we have our
own version, "Treasures Revealed", scheduled
here at the Historical Society facility on May
15, 2009. Bring your items in to have them professionally
appraised by the Alderfer Auction and Appraisal
Company. There is a donation request of
$8.00 per item with a 3 item limit. Even if you
don't have anything to be appraised, come out and
enjoy early Friday afternoon watching this event.
Light refreshments will be available. Click
on the picture below to download
a PDF version of the form below that you can print
out and bring with you.

Stop
by The Historical Society of Bensalem Township
and:
It's
all waiting for you here!
The Historical
Society of Bensalem Township was founded and incorporated
in 1977 as a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. One
of the first objectives of the Society was to publish
a written history which was accomplished with the
1984 release of the book "Traveling Through
Bensalem 1692-1984". A follow-up second book, "Bensalem
II", was a pictorial edition which was released
in 2000. Our third book, "The Journey Continues",
is a companion to our first book.
The new book will take you from 1984 to the present
and is now available for purchase.
Over
the years the Society has been involved in many
events in the Bensalem area. Our biggest event
is the annual Civil War Reenactment in The Neshaminy
State Park every April which the Society has sponsored
for the past 18 years. We also participate in the
Bensalem Pride Day festivities and have been instrumental
in the preservation of the Johnson-Williamson Cemetery. In
conjunction with the Bensalem High School History
teachers and the Betty Diamond Fund, the Society
also presents a History Award to a deserving
Bensalem High Senior. We also are involved with
the presentation of the Logan Award, too.
The Society
has acquired 26 wedding gowns, dating from 1890
through 2004, which are part of a program that
we can put on for any club, school or organization.
We also have 7 different multimedia presentations
available, too. CONTACT
US for more information on these programs.
We have
also acquired old cemetery records, 58 land deeds,
various maps, local genealogies, photographs & slides
of local people, Bensalem High Yearbooks, dinnerware
from the Trappe Hotel, various books & ledgers,
Growden Mansion history, and postcards.
We are
always looking for photographs and other Bensalem
related memories to add to our collections, CONTACT
US if you have items to donate.
We also
have various items for sale including the 2 aforementioned
books, plus other interesting items. Following
is a list and price of these items:
These
can be purchased directly from the Society or at
the Bucks County Visitors Center. CONTACT
US for more information on these items.
We are
open Wednesdays from 9AM-12PM, Saturdays through

only.
